➤ What is Medicare Part C?
Medicare Part C is another name for Medicare Advantage. Instead of getting Parts A and B directly from the government, you get them through a private plan approved by Medicare, and many of these plans also include drug coverage and may include extras such as dental or vision.
➤ Do I still pay Part B?
Yes. Joining a Medicare Advantage plan does not replace your Part B premium, which is $202.90 a month in 2026. The 2027 amount is projected at $209.50, but the official figure is announced in November, and any plan premium is paid on top of Part B.
➤ When can I enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan for 2027?
Sign up between October 15 and December 7, 2026, for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you also get one chance to switch plans or return to Original Medicare from January 1 to March 31, 2027.
➤ What happens if my Medicare Advantage plan is ending?
Your plan continues to cover you through December 31, 2026, and you will receive a non-renewal notice. A Special Enrollment Period lets you choose a new plan, and you generally gain a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap plans, typically within 63 days after the old coverage ends.
➤ What types of Medicare Advantage plans are there?
The main types are HMOs, which usually require in-network care, and PPOs, which let you go out of network at a higher cost. There are also Special Needs Plans for people with certain conditions or with both Medicare and Medicaid.
➤ How much does Medicare Part C cost in 2027?
The average Medicare Advantage premium is $12 a month for 2027, down from $14.37 in 2026. You still pay your Part B premium, and real costs also include copays, coinsurance and the plan’s out-of-pocket limit, which vary by plan.
➤ Does Medicare Part C include drug coverage?
Many plans do, and these are called MA-PD plans. For 2027 the average drug portion of an MA-PD premium is about $7, and the Part D out-of-pocket cap of $2,400 applies to covered drugs in plans that include drug coverage.
➤ What extras can Medicare Advantage plans include?
Plans may include routine dental, vision, hearing, over-the-counter allowances or fitness benefits, which Original Medicare does not cover. Not all plans offer all benefits, and amounts vary widely, so compare the actual coverage details rather than the headline.
➤ How many people have Medicare Advantage?
About 34 million people are projected to be enrolled in Medicare Advantage in 2027, which is about 47% of everyone with Medicare. They can choose from about 5,532 plans nationwide, though the number available in any one county is much smaller.
